Riba ve Faiz

Hakan Şahin's main thesis is that the riba prohibited by the Quran cannot be identified with all kinds of interest in the modern sense. The work examines the riba in the pre-Islamic period of ignorance (Jahiliyyah) as an exploitative mechanism that takes advantage of the debtor's inability to pay.

It is argued that modern banking interest emerges under different conditions such as the use of capital in production, risk, inflation, investment, and credit markets. Therefore, it is discussed that it cannot be automatically identified with the historical category of riba.

The book interprets the prohibition of interest primarily as a moral principle that prevents oppression and exploitation.
